Is Iran at a Crossroads?

Meet former UK Ambassador to Iran Nicholas Hopton to discuss the future of Iran. Will the new moderate President, Heart Surgeon Masoud Pezeshkian, make peace with Trump? Or will more foreign aggression and internal repression follow?

Could this happen in 2025?

David Bradley talks to Nicholas Hopton, the former UK Ambassador to Iran 2016 - 2018, about Iran's latest intentions in the Middle East following the fall of Syria, the new Trump presidency and the moderate new Iranian President, Masoud Pezeshkian. More authoritarian theocracy and aggressive foreign policy or genuine reform and reconciliation? Nicholas Hopton will enlighten us.

Nicholas-Hopton.jpg

Cambridge-educated Nicholas Hopton served 35 years at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and was ambassador to Qatar, Libya, Yemen and Iran, the latter from 2016 to 2018. He was the first ambassador there since breaking diplomatic relations between the UK and Iran in 2011. He is now the Director General of the Middle East Association, facilitating opportunities between the United Kingdom and the Middle East across business, culture, environment, education, and development.

What you'll also discover includes:

* The Iranian regime's strategic regional and global objectives. (What does it want?)

* How the new moderate President might affect Iran's aims and ambitions.

* What the Middle East will look like with a changed Iran. What will that mean for Israel and the World?

* Whether or not the fall of the Assad regime in Syria might alter what's happening in Iran.  Could the current regime still collapse?

* How the Trump Presidency might shape Iran's policies.

* The commercial opportunities in a changed Iran.

* What diplomatic life in Tehran and engaging with the Mullahs is like.

* What the Middle East Association does. (Nicholas is its Director General.)
